TRIZELLE van Wyk (12 years), a Grade 6 pupil at Rehoboth Primary School was crowned Miss Rehoboth Primary School 2023 recently. She spoke to Youth Central about her win, her life while growing up and what the public can expect from her during her year.
Tell us more about yourself?
I am naturally a very bubbly person. I love to spend time with my family and friends. I like to go to church with my family. I strive to achieve the best marks to keep my family proud and do everything to the best of my ability.
What are your like and dislikes?
I like singing, dancing and acting. I dislike bad mannered people and bullies.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to become a doctor to be able to take care of sick people. I enjoy taking care of people. My motto in life is ‘the key to success are my goals and not my obstacles”.
Why did you decide to enter Miss Rehoboth Primary School?
I decided to enter Miss RPS because of a tragedy in my life that caused me to become an introvert. I wanted to break out of my shell and by trying for this pageant it was possible to find my true inner self.
How did you enter Miss Rehoboth Primary School?
When they made the announcement at school that they will be hosting the Miss Rehoboth Primary School pageant, I just had an urge to take part. When I got home and shared this with my family and they were all excited and supportive of my decision.
As part of the Miss Rehoboth Primary School contest, what are some of the things you learned that you did not know before?
I have learnt to be confident. I have learnt to be proud and I have learnt that every girl is different. We may all come from the same community, but we all have a different background and different ways of doing things.
How do you feel after winning Miss Rehoboth Primary School?
This is the start for me in this industry. I feel very blessed, excited and honoured to be crowned Miss Rehoboth Primary School 2023. Winning to me means that I can take this opportunity to be part of a bigger future. I want to be able to help my community by assisting people in need by having fundraising and sourcing sponsorships. I want to add value to my community.
During your year, what will you focus on?
I want to focus on young girls like me, to make a positive impression of what we are meant to be. I feel that peer pressure of today is very difficult, and I want to show them that by being yourself, you can achieve anything.
What advice do you have for other youngsters?
To always be yourself and not take to heart what other people say about you. Always follow your heart. I want people to know that they must always be positive and stay positive.
