Pupkewitz starts agriculture firm

THE availability of unused agronomic resources throughout Namibia has motivated Pupkewitz Holdings to establish a new business venture to bring specialised agronomic and irrigation services and products to the Namibian market.

The new company is called Pupkewitz GreenTech and will provide specialised services to the agricultural sector for irrigation projects and greenhouse crop production, the Group announced on Friday. Executive Chairman Harold Pupkewitz, who turned 94 years this week, found it fit for the Group to embark on a new field.The new subsidiary will provide consulting, professional services and project management plus the supply of all the equipment for successful implementation, turn-key solutions and after-sales advisory and maintenance services.’As someone who has lived in and loved Namibia for a very long time, I take tremendous pride in the addition of GreenTech to our list of companies,’ Pupkewitz said. ‘We are very excited about doing our part to help our nation grow more food, increase the variety of local crops and becoming less dependent on imports.’Irrigation systems on offer will include overhead conventional type irrigation systems and equipment inclusive of pump station equipment, fertigation equipment, main and sub-main supply lines and fittings.Low volume, high-tech irrigation systems such as drip and micro sprinkler type irrigation systems are also available. ‘Pupkewitz GreenTech will help new emerging farmers in addition to existing commercial farmers apply proven agronomic and irrigation technology to increase crop yields and profitability, leading to wealth and job creation with improved standards of living’, said Johan Smit, newly appointed manager of GreenTech: ‘optimizing our scarce water resources will become even more important in the years to come.’ Smit has over 30 years experience in this field.
