Pupils coming to school ‘drunk’

Khorixas police officers recently visited Welwitschia Junior Secondary School to warn pupils who reportedly come to school drunk.

“I have requested to talk to the learners about the danger of alcohol and substance abuse,” said Outjo circuit inspector Thomas Nuuyoma Amutenya.

“They are coming from the location under the influence…”

Amutenya said he previously spent a week at the school engaging with pupils.

“They are literally coming to school drunk.”

Amutenya said the parents are not taking good care of their children and do not provide adequate supervision resulting in pupils going around from shebeen to shebeen at Khorixas.

Khorixas station commander Teofilus Ipinge blamed parents who drink alcohol in front of children and those who send their children to go buy alcohol, for the pupils’ behaviour.

He also expressed concern about children being out on the streets late at night.
