Pupil takes own life after failing Grade 11 at Oshikoto

A boy (17) from the Onamutayi-Onanke village in the Omuntele constituency allegedly took his own life on Thursday morning after receiving his exam results on Wednesday.

The deceased, who has been identified as Shatiwa Tuhafeni Nghifilenga, was a pupil at Olukolo Secondary School.

According to Oshikoto police regional commander commissioner Theopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku in a police report on Sunday, it is alleged that Shatiwa was sad after receiving his Grade 11 exam results on Wednesday, since he failed.

Kalompo-Nashikaku said Shatiwa was found unconscious by his uncle. He was rushed to the Omuthiya district hospital and thereafter transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital for further treatment, where he died at around 19h00 on the same day.

No suicide note was left behind, and no foul play is suspected, she said.

“The next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.”
