The Steval Pumas outplayed the FNB Welwitschias in all facets of the game to win their Vodacom Cup match 61-7 at the Hage Geingob Stadiym on Friday night.
The Pumas, displaying an exciting brand of 15-man rugby, ran in nine tries, while flyhalf Justin van Staden scored 14 points, consisting of seven conversions, with the boot.
Substitute Jean Claud Roos added one conversion.
The Welwitschias were rewarded with one try by centre Jacques Nel which was converted by substitute flyhalf Shawn Kaizemi.
For the Pumas, fullback Heinrich Steyl and left wing Marcello Sampson scored two tries each, while eighthman Jason Fraser, lock Rudi Matthee, right wing Ruwellyn Isbell and substitute centre Wilmaure Louw scored one try each, while the Pumas were also awarded a penalty try after a period of sustained pressure on the Welwitschias’ line.
It was the Welwitschias’ second consecutive defeat in the Vodacom Cup after they lost 53-3 against the Xerox Lions the previous week.
For the Pumas it was their second successive win after they beat the Griffons 57-18 a week ago.
