Public park planned for Ondangwa

THE Ondangwa Town Council has decided to establish a public park at a cost of more than N$300 000.

Chairman of the council’s management committee, Ronny Negonga, told a press conference on Friday that the park would be located south-east of the Uupopo informal settlement. He said the council had budgeted N$300 000 for the first phase of the development and would seek assistance from donors to complete the project.Negonga said other development plans in the pipeline included relocating the town’s Omatala open market and upgrading the sewer system. The market, now situated near the Ondangwa Industrial Park, will be moved to a site close to the old Ondjondo Wholesale and Onguta Elcin Church.”The construction of the open market will cost the council N$10 million, but the first phase of this project that will be completed in December this year will cost the council N$1,7 million,” Negonga said. The oxidation ponds south-east of Ondangwa Airport will be done away with and new sewer ponds will be built south of the Oluno Rehabilitation Centre at a cost of N$6,3 million.Negonga said the council had decided to install a new vacuum sewer system to replace the old sewerage system, which was built in the 1960s.This project would cost N$9,9 million, he said. The Ondangwa Town Council has also instituted a monthly tariff for fire brigade services.Previously, residents who called out the fire brigade had to pay N$100 for its services. The council will now add N$1 a month to each resident’s municipal bill, and N$1,50 per business.
