Prosperity Group ventures East

NAMIBIA’S premier health care company, Prosperity Group, continues to spread its footprint on the continent by recently establishing itself in East Africa.

From May 1, the company will become a full-time insurance company in East Africa operating in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Prosperity Group Namibia’s Managing Director, Kobus Struwig, on Friday said the company had already set up in Kenya and Tanzania two years ago but would now become a fully fledged insurance company in the eastern sub-region of Africa.”It was quite a challenge setting up in those countries as we had to start everything from scratch,” he said, adding that the company had invested N$10 million towards the East African venture.Currently the company administers some 13 000 families in Kenya and Tanzania, whose total contribution is around N$100 million per year.A wholly owned Namibian company, Prosperity Group was set up 13 years ago and administers its business mostly in SADC countries – Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe – administering around 300 000 families and generating a total revenue of N$2 billion per annum.Struwig said his company was ready to expand across the continent.”We see ourselves as a major African player in the business of health care insurance,” he said.Prosperity Group Namibia’s Managing Director, Kobus Struwig, on Friday said the company had already set up in Kenya and Tanzania two years ago but would now become a fully fledged insurance company in the eastern sub-region of Africa.”It was quite a challenge setting up in those countries as we had to start everything from scratch,” he said, adding that the company had invested N$10 million towards the East African venture.Currently the company administers some 13 000 families in Kenya and Tanzania, whose total contribution is around N$100 million per year.A wholly owned Namibian company, Prosperity Group was set up 13 years ago and administers its business mostly in SADC countries – Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe – administering around 300 000 families and generating a total revenue of N$2 billion per annum.Struwig said his company was ready to expand across the continent.”We see ourselves as a major African player in the business of health care insurance,” he said.
