Probe into Tunakie’s death still ongoing

SINCE the death of the late Shambo queen Maria Tuna-Omukwathi Uushona, popularly known as Tunakie, there has been an outpouring of grief and many questions asked about the cause of her death.

The hitmaker of Namibian traditional music, Tunakie died after collapsing in her salon in South Africa on 24 April.

The late artist’s aunt, Angie Nampala, said investigations into the cause of her death are still ongoing.

“Investigations in Cape Town, South Africa, started when Naki (Uushona) passed on. We, the family, are updated now and then but investigation officers ethically do not reveal much information to the family or other external person. The chief investigation officer of the case says this investigation may take six months up to three years,” Nampala said.

Nampala said that investigations on murder and foul play are taking place. “Any parent who knows that his/her child did not die from natural cause/s would want answers. That’s the only reason why Tunakie’s death needs to be investigated,” Nampala said.
