Prison break: Zambezi police on the hunt for 10 escapees

Zambezi regional police are yet to re-arrest 10 of the 13 trial-awaiting inmates that escaped from the Menias Brian Libuto police station.

This is after the inmates overpowered the police on Sunday.

Three inmates were immediately re-arrested, comprising one Namibian and two Zambians, when the search commenced.

Regional police commander commissioner Andreas Shilelo told The Namibian on Wednesday they were still searching for nine Zambians and one Angolan that escaped at around 17h00, while they were being served food.

“We are still searching for the remaining inmates and have sought the assistance of our Zambian and Angolan counterparts,” he said.

Their names are Matuso Thomas, Siyanga Nakweti, Muyunda Shadrick, Muyunda Mushe, John Mwelwa, Kaumba Kaumba, Taezo Kaine, Joe Mubone, Mwenda Muyunda and Lusho Ketano.

“Anyone with information about the remaining escapees should call the nearest police station. The community should not attempt to arrest the suspects themselves,” Shilelo said.
