President’s eight appointees sworn into parliament

THE eight parliamentarians appointed by president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah were sworn in as members of parliament on Saturday.

They are former defence minister Frans Kapofi, medical doctor Esperance Luvindao, former ambassador Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, former education executive director Sanet Steenkamp, Ericha Shafudah, Albert Hengari and Fillemon Immanuel.

They were sworn in by chief Justice Peter Shivute.

New National Assembly speaker Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila welcomed the eight members to parliament, urging them to lead by example.

“When I heard the news I thought it was April Fool’s Day. I was so shocked but humbled at the same time,” says Hengari.

He adds that he looks forward to working with other members of parliament in addressing economical and societal issues.

Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to announce her Cabinet on Saturday afternoon at State House.
