President says corruption must be compared to treason

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says corruption must be compared to treason and those who do it should be held accountable.

She says corruption remains one of the biggest threats to Namibia’s development.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said this on Saturday during her midnight speech at the Independence Day celebration at State House.

“Corruption is not simply a crime against the state; it is a betrayal of the people you are meant to serve and could be compared to treason,” she said.

The president said when public resources are diverted for personal gain, it directly undermines service delivery and deprives citizens of essential opportunities.

“When resources meant to improve the lives of our people are misused, it becomes an injustice to every Namibian who depends on those resources for better schools, healthcare, housing and opportunities,” she says.

TRABALISM
Nandi-Ndaitwah said there are divisions within the country of tribalism, racism and regionalism.

“It is saddening to see these elements increasingly showing their ‘ugly face’ in our nation. They are dangerous, they tear nations apart and must be avoided at all costs,” she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said the government remains focused on delivering national priorities under the Sixth National Development Plan, with agriculture identified as a key sector.

“The eighth administration is determined to advance national priorities, with agriculture remaining priority number one,” she said.
