President mourns Shaningwa’s mother, describes her as pillar of faith

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has paid tribute to the mother of Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa, who has died at the age of 91.

Speaking at her funeral service at Outapi in the Omusati region on Saturday, the president said ‘Kuku’ Petra Nakwenye Aluvilu ya Ameya’s life over nine decades was marked by humility, discipline and service.

Nandi-Ndaitwah described her as a pillar of faith and a symbol of resilience whose life touched her family and community.

“She belonged to a generation of mothers whose quiet strength and faith sustained communities and shaped future leaders.

“She nurtured a leader who today serves our party and our nation with dedication and resilience,” the president said, highlighting how her guidance and values are reflected in the leadership of her daughter, and continue to inspire those around her.

The president extended her condolences on behalf of the government, Swapo, the Namibian people and the Ohama Yaashuunda community.
