THE Swapo Youth League wants tarred roads, electricity, schools, clinics, water and affordable housing in rural areas “with immediate effect”.
However, the demand made by newly elected Secretary Elijah Ngurare on Monday was not appreciated by President Hifikepunye Pohamba. “You want toilets in rural areas? Who will dig them?” Pohamba retorted at the closing of the Youth League’s congress in Windhoek. He was annoyed that the Youth League used the platform to make demands instead of approaching Government to discuss the issue.”The youth must stand up and serve the nation. The nation is looking at you as catalysts of change. We did it in a different way under the leadership of Sam Nujoma. We said we will fight them and we did.I was there. We did not ask others to do it for us,” he said.He said Swapo was only assisted with ‘tools”.”We used the tools and the expertise we picked up.If you want toilets, ask me for spades,” Pohamba said.”You want toilets in rural areas?
