Pre-paid meters come to Omaruru – two years late

PRE-PAID water meter company Water Master will finally install pre-paid metres in Omaruru, about two years after they were paid N$258 000.

A shareholder and manager of Water Master, Johannes Jacobs (Mabos) Vries, told The Namibian last week that the Omaruru Municipality had caused the delay in the installation of the meters at the Hakahana “informal settlement” because the area did not have a proper pipe (reticulation) system. Residents at the north-western town have criticised the municipality for paying Water Master the full amount before delivery. The “concerned” residents argued that the municipality had lost nearly two years’ worth of interest running into tens of thousands with only Water Master benefiting.Vries said they were ready to deliver at the time but that the municipality did not have a proper system in place. He said by the end of next week, Water Master would have installed the 30 communal water metres.Residents at the north-western town have criticised the municipality for paying Water Master the full amount before delivery. The “concerned” residents argued that the municipality had lost nearly two years’ worth of interest running into tens of thousands with only Water Master benefiting.Vries said they were ready to deliver at the time but that the municipality did not have a proper system in place. He said by the end of next week, Water Master would have installed the 30 communal water metres.
