Pohamba Pengeyo, or Pow The Poet, a local ghostwriter, producer and freestyle rap artist hailing from Edundja village in Ohangwena region, is charging other musicians N$100 000 for a collaboration.
The 31-year-old hip-hop rapper under the brand ‘Edundja Loo’, who performs largely in Oshiwambo, claims he has a distinctive sound and those who wish to feature him should be prepared to spend up to N$100 000 per feature.
“I’m not an upcoming artist and I charge N$100 000 because I recognise my value in the industry,” Pow the Poet claims.
The ‘Freestyle 44_48’ hitmaker says that his love of music began when he was in Grade 8 and attending Concordia College in Windhoek.
He referred to himself as a creative genius who made significant contributions to Namibian music’s hip-hop genre.
The rapper says, as an independent and solo artist, he started playing around with the kwaito genre while at college and also began rapping, singing and freestyling for his classmates.
He says ever since that inspiration from his classmates, he has discovered his passion for music and dedicated his life to it.
His most notable performance to date was between 2016 and 2017 as the opener for the award-winning singer Oteya during the Vigo National Tour Promotion.
He also had the opportunity to perform and share the stage with King Tee Dee and Jericho throughout the tour.
Pow the Poet currently has popular tunes including ‘Edundja’, ‘Heavyweight’, ‘OGameA’, ‘Transformation’ and ‘Kissing N Loving You’ that have gained him recognition, a fan base and a ton of SoundCloud plays.
“All my singles are self-explanatory,” the rapper argues.
He gained popularity as a budding rapper in the nation, thanks to the music video for the song ‘Fittest’, which was released in 2019.
The song talks about surviving in the game and explains why he is asking for N$100 000.
Pow the Poet is currently working on his debut album, ‘Check Mei Nxa’, which is scheduled for release in October.
“Fans can expect new kicks, drums and bass on kwaito songs,” he says.
He says the eight-track CD will include his new tracks and previously released singles.
The artist promises to take over the rap industry.
