LE Palace Restaurant at Rehoboth, which is also known as Pink Palace, burnt down on Friday in what is suspected to be a case of arson.
According to the proprietor, Pieter Olivier, Namibia Police forensic investigators yesterday morning confirmed his suspicions in their initial investigations – an intentional burning of the place. No one was injured in the fire.
He said that no arrests had been made but appealed to anybody in Rehoboth or/and in Namibia at large, who might know the people who did it or have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.
Olivier said the estimated cost of property destroyed in the fire was N$12,5 million.
“The building was completely destroyed. We lost tables, stoves, grills and many other things,” he said.
Olivier said he was alerted of the fire by a worker from the Live FM community radio station housed in the same building, at about 03h00 on Friday morning.
He said the radio station lost some equipment in the fire but they are collaborating to ensure that the station gets back on air soon.
He said the popular reastaurant will be closed for normal functions including hosting wedding receptions until further notice.
