Poor NBC Effort To Deal With Expropriation

THE NBC thought it good to give the key stakeholders a chance to explain: – why and how land expropriation would take place.

– why the various people concerned are for or against expropriation, and – what should be done next to ensure successful land reform. Unfortunately, the most important members of the panel (PS of the Lands Ministry and Sigi Eimbeck) wasted the chance.Sigi Eimbeck was worst, because he could not even say whether or not he supports expropriation.Maybe it does not matter whether or not he (Sigi) supports land expropriation, because the decision has been taken by the highest authority.Sigi, however, had a chance to say how the process could be improved, but he sat there and sounded like a white farmer who still feels uncomfortable having a black farm-worker ride with him in front of the bakkie when they are doing the rounds inspecting the camps. The Government representative did not perform any better, because he failed to tell us how farms for expropriation are identified. It is not only the farm owners who want to know that. The landless also want to know.My verdict.Let’s have that panel discussion all over again.Invite the same people, tell them to be prepared, but get rid of the moderator because she cannot moderate.I’m sure Tangeni Amupadhi will do a better job.He should however enforce moderate behaviour upon Risto Kapenda.Landless Namibian Rosh PinahUnfortunately, the most important members of the panel (PS of the Lands Ministry and Sigi Eimbeck) wasted the chance.Sigi Eimbeck was worst, because he could not even say whether or not he supports expropriation.Maybe it does not matter whether or not he (Sigi) supports land expropriation, because the decision has been taken by the highest authority.Sigi, however, had a chance to say how the process could be improved, but he sat there and sounded like a white farmer who still feels uncomfortable having a black farm-worker ride with him in front of the bakkie when they are doing the rounds inspecting the camps. The Government representative did not perform any better, because he failed to tell us how farms for expropriation are identified. It is not only the farm owners who want to know that. The landless also want to know.My verdict.Let’s have that panel discussion all over again.Invite the same people, tell them to be prepared, but get rid of the moderator because she cannot moderate.I’m sure Tangeni Amupadhi will do a better job.He should however enforce moderate behaviour upon Risto Kapenda.Landless Namibian Rosh Pinah
