Politicians urged to take advantage of online ECN application process

Otjozondjupa regional electoral officer Victoria Amutenya has called on politicians in the region aspiring to contest in the 2025 regional council and local authority elections to start submitting their applications to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).

Amutenya in a media statement on Friday says application forms are available on the ECN’s official website.

Namibians will on 26 November cast their votes to elect constituency and local authority councillors at various towns and villages.

“Therefore, all the application processes will be conducted online at https://ppcm.ecn.na as this was agreed upon with all political parties and associations intending to contest in the upcoming elections,” Amutenya says.

To ensure accessibility and support throughout the process, ECN returning officers will be deployed to the six constituency offices of Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Otavi, Otjiwarongo and Omatako, while Okahandja’s returning officers for regional and local authorities will be stationed at the Okahandja Municipality Hall, she says.

ECN officials will be available at the centres to assist candidates with questions until 16 October, Amutenya says.

Independent candidates must submit their application forms before 14 October, while candidates of political parties and associations have until 16 October to apply, with a non-refundable application fee of N$2 500 required from all applicants.

Amutenya says independent candidates can only apply to contest in the regional council elections under Namibian law, and not in local authority or National Assembly elections, but are eligible to contest in presidential elections.

The ECN is also conducting a nationwide voter education campaign, which commenced on 15 September, and will continue until election day on 26 November.
