Media monitoring expert Christie Keulder says Namibian political parties are not communication driven, and therefore rely on events to interact with voters.
Keulder in a report says parties have failed to have clear-cut communication strategies.
Keulder’s report is based on research he conducted during the 2024 presidential and National Assembly election period.
The report was presented on Thursday.
“Parties did not develop or implement consistent, coherent communication strategies or plans,” he said.
Keulder said this has led to voters having little opportunity to learn about parties, policies, and candidates.
“Small parties received more coverage than predicted by their support, mainly due to controversies and crisis events,” he said.
At first, media monitoring results showed that coverage was focused on the ruling party.
This changed a few weeks ahead of election day, when media coverage on opposition parties increased.
