Police offer large cash reward for info on Kleine Kuppe triple murder

POLICE have offered a reward, said to be around N$20 000, to the person who can provide information leading to the arrest of the murderers of three people in Windhoek’s Kleine Kuppe suburb on Friday night.

Mario de Souza (46), a well-known businessman in the motor industry, his wife Magda (43) and Koos Stoop Jnr (35) were shot dead after they confronted robbers at the De Souza family’s house in Natco Street, Kleine Kuppe. Police spokesman, Deputy Commissioner Hophni Hamufungu, said he was surprised that members of the public had phoned in yesterday wanting to know the value of the reward before they would share information.”I thought it is the civic duty of each Namibian to inform the Police about such incidents, but people first want to find out about the reward,” Hamufungu said.Hamufungu said the robbers made off with a brown leather handbag belonging to Mrs de Souza, which contained her passport, an FNB ATM card, a blue Siemens A35 cellphone and a Nokia 7210 belonging to her husband. The attackers used a pistol and a revolver to shoot the De Souzas and Stoop “execution style”.Anja Britz, the only survivor of the ordeal, told the Police that she and Mrs de Souza were involved in an argument when the robbers appeared on the scene at around 24h00.Mr de Souza attempted to fight off the robbers and was shot in the forehead. He died on the spot.Mrs De Souza tried to help her husband, who was lying on the ground, and was also shot in the head. She died later in hospital. The robbers then reportedly turned on Stoop and shot him on the spot.Following the triple shooting, callers to the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) chat shows have been demanding the re-introduction of the death penalty.Others contend that the main reason for such criminal acts is poverty.Police spokesman, Deputy Commissioner Hophni Hamufungu, said he was surprised that members of the public had phoned in yesterday wanting to know the value of the reward before they would share information. “I thought it is the civic duty of each Namibian to inform the Police about such incidents, but people first want to find out about the reward,” Hamufungu said.
