A police vehicle crashed into the Chinese embassy in Ludwigsdorf, Windhoek, on Thursday morning during a high-speed chase involving a vehicle used by suspected criminals.
The incident occurred between 09h00 and 10h00, according to a police officer at the scene.
The police say officers were pursuing a white Volkswagen Polo when it lost control and crashed into a wall of the Chinese embassy’s premises.
While the VW Polo was allegedly reversing in an attempt to flee, the police vehicle attempted to intercept it but instead crashed, while the Polo managed to escape the scene.
Police officers then exited their vehicle and fired several shots in the direction of the fleeing car in an attempt to stop it.
The suspect vehicle allegedly continued fleeing and was seen heading to Dagbreek School for the Intellectually Impaired.
The police further confirmed that the driver of the police vehicle sustained serious injuries, while two other officers suffered minor injuries.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
