Police commander attacked in town

CHIEF Inspector Robert S. Sanjahi, station commander of the Windhoek Central Police Station, was attacked in the heart of town in front of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism on Monday evening.

He was in full uniform and armed. “I was attacked but I managed to run away,” Sanjahi said yesterday.”I was alone. It was about 17h30.There were three of them. These other two later ran away when I confronted the ringleader. He was trying to stab me with a broken bottle in the belly,” the veteran policeman said.He said he was able to deflect the attack and only sustained minor injuries to his hand, but his trousers were sliced by the broken glass.”I think they know me from inside here, but I have never met them before myself.”This one I physically fought with, he came at me first and started swearing at me.”He spat on me twice before he took out the bottle. It was just ugly.If I was not a man I would have shot him.He was a strong guy, I was afraid that if I fell down …”he said.Chief Inspector Sanjahi has opened a case of assault and is confident that the culprits will be found, especially since he left his attacker with a wound to the head.”The most visible evidence is the uniform.See how they have torn it,” he said.”I was attacked but I managed to run away,” Sanjahi said yesterday.”I was alone. It was just ugly.If I was not a man I would have shot him.He was a strong guy, I was afraid that if I fell down …”he said.Chief Inspector Sanjahi has opened a case of assault and is confident that the culprits will be found, especially since he left his attacker with a wound to the head.”The most visible evidence is the uniform.See how they have torn it,” he said.
