Namibian Police deputy inspector general Elias Mutota has confirmed that a security officer employed by Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia) was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at the company’s office in Windhoek on Saturday.

Mutota said the Namdia security officer was arrested on Sunday.

“We believe that the suspect currently detained is a security officer at Namdia and was available on duty when the incident happened,” Mutota said.

He said the police are still investigating the matter and there might be more suspects involved.

This comes after police deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi told The Namibian the robbery involving four suspects took place between 17h00 and 18h00 on Saturday at the Namdia office at the corner of Sam Nujoma Drive and Dr Nkwame Nkrumah Avenue in Windhoek.

The incident left Namdia protection officer Francis Eiseb (57) dead.

One suspect, identified as Max Endjala, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while a second suspect is in police custody.
