Pensioner shot dead while having supper with his wife

An 84-year-old man was shot dead by an intruder at Mabushe village in the Kavango East region.

The police in the region are investigating the case, including a case of attempted murder after an unknown suspect invaded the couple’s house on Monday night.

It is alleged that the deceased was shot while having supper with his 92-year-old wife at their homestead at Mabushe, along the Trans-Zambezi Highway in the Ndiyona area.

The Kavango East crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, confirmed the incident to The Namibian, saying it happened around 19h30.

“It’s alleged that the suspect entered the homestead of the deceased, found him eating with his wife and shot him on his left hip. He fell from the chair and died on the spot. The suspect also shot the wife of the deceased on her left thigh, sustaining serious injuries,” explained Kanyetu.

The deceased has been identified as Mbambi Shinkanda, an 84-year-old Namibian male. His wife, Annarose Kashova Mungenga (92), was ferried to Nyangana hospital for treatment.

The body of the deceased was taken to Rundu state mortuary pending postmortem.

Kanyetu said the suspect has not yet been arrested, but police investigations are underway to bring the suspect to book.

The police are requesting the community of Mabushe and the Ndiyona constituency to assist with any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

“The police need assistance with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect in this horrifying incident to ensure the collective effort to stop any repetition of this incident,” pleaded Kanyetu.
