Pensioner in custody over alleged trafficking and abuse of Angolan child

A 62-year-old woman accused of trafficking, starving and physically abusing a 15-year-old Angolan child is being held in custody after appearing in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The accused, Selma Daniel, from the village of Oshiyagaya in the Oshikoto region, allegedly subjected the child to child labour and mistreatment, including starvation and physical abuse.

Daniel was remanded in custody at the end of a brief appearance in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The matter was postponed to 19 August to allow the police to continue with their investigation.
