Pensioner hit by vehicle at Oshakati

A man (77) died after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle at Oshakati on Monday.

Namibian Police chief inspector of the Oshana community policing subdivision Thomas Aiyambo says the incident occurred at approximately 15h02 on the C46 Oshakati main road.

According to Aiyambo, the suspect, a man (48), was reportedly driving westwards from the traffic lights at the time of the incident.

“[He was] on the way to Ongwediva, then in the process a pedestrian was crossing the road. Unfortunately, a white bakkie bumped the pedestrian and he was declared dead at the scene,” says Aiyambo.

Aiyambo identified the deceased as Hangalo Frederich, a resident of Oshipumbushomugongo in the Oshana region.

Frederich’s body was transported to the Oshakati Police Mortuary for an autopsy.

The suspect has been arrested on charges of culpable homicide.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
