Pensioner dies while waiting in line for social grant at Nampost Rundu

A pensioner died while waiting in line to collect her social grant at the Nampost branch at Rundu in the Kavango East region on Tuesday.

Kasova Domingo (72) collapsed and later died at a hospital. She was reportedly unwell earlier in the day but had not expressed her condition to anyone.

Kavango East police regional commander commissioner Andreas Haingura confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

He said the pensioner was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

A family member, Rosa Muyenga, says Domingo began showing signs of distress while waiting outside the post office before collapsing.

“She was feeling unwell, and we then took a taxi to the Rundu Intermediate Hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital, she was unfortunately declared dead,” Muyenga sasy.

Muyenga says the family is aware of what happened.

“We always take her to get her pension grant income,” she notes.

The incident has raised concerns among community members regarding long queues, the welfare of elderly citizens and the conditions under which pensioners collect their monthly grants.
