Popular Democratic Movement leader McHenry Venaani says he knew Geingob well, adding the late president was always happy around his wife, Monica Geingos.
“When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine.
“That all the world will be in love with night,” Venaani said on Saturday, reciting a poem by William Shakespeare in his tribute to Geingob at the memorial service at Independence Stadium.
He said although he has made the president angry due to his political views, they respected each other.
“President Geingob and I shared a brief friendship in the earlier years of our political lives.
“He was a bridge builder, and we as the opposition were friends – a thing that is not common in the political atmosphere of Namibia,” Venaani said.
He said he would always remember the president for his laughter and smile.
