BLACK Africa chairman Boni Paulino has expressed dissatisfaction with the selection criteria used for the annual Namibia Football Association (NFA) awards which are due at the end of this month.
Paulino was more concerned with the criteria used by the organisers in determining the winners, while the Namibia Premier League Board of Governors, (BOG) which is supposed to endorse the nominations made, is always overlooked. He said last season, the winners of the various awards were chosen without the endorsement of the BOG.”The BOG was deliberately not engaged in the process, and thus cannot own the process and be accountable. As we all know, players and coaches are nominated by various coaches but the final information is never brought to the BOG for verification and endorsement,” he said.Paulino, who also forms part of the BOG as a chairman for his club, said with regard to the other awards such as ‘Manager of the Year’ and ‘Supporter of the Year’, the issue is more unclear.”Who was or were responsible for the final selection of all the award winners?” he asked. He said there are no criteria set at the start of the season, but yet people are nominated and chosen. The former Black Africa midfielder said the way the individual awardees were nominated and chosen for the FNB and MTC Cups are also not known.” I strongly believe that, with due respect, the Board of Governors are to be blamed for this, since we are inactive and allow this to happen,” he said.He also wanted to know what criteria will be used for the upcoming awards as there were no nominations made so far.”I thus call upon the BOG chairman to call an urgent BOG meeting to handle this matter,” said Paulino.Orlando Pirates chairman, Mabos Vries heads the BOG.He said last season, the winners of the various awards were chosen without the endorsement of the BOG.”The BOG was deliberately not engaged in the process, and thus cannot own the process and be accountable. The former Black Africa midfielder said the way the individual awardees were nominated and chosen for the FNB and MTC Cups are also not known.” I strongly believe that, with due respect, the Board of Governors are to be blamed for this, since we are inactive and allow this to happen,” he said.He also wanted to know what criteria will be used for the upcoming awards as there were no nominations made so far.”I thus call upon the BOG chairman to call an urgent BOG meeting to handle this matter,” said Paulino.Orlando Pirates chairman, Mabos Vries heads the BOG.
