Namibian artist Patrick Sikiliza is celebrating Valentine’s Day with the launch of a new love single titled ‘Home Away From Home’, featuring reggae legend Ras Sheehama.
The chorus was written by Dion Auala (Diyon), while the song was produced by Mr Glo of Glo Music Production.
According to Sikiliza, the song is more than a love song. “’Home Away From Home’ is a declaration of love. It speaks about choosing one person, repeatedly, regardless of life’s storms, distance or circumstances. It is about finding safety in someone’s presence. About discovering that ‘home’ is not always a place – sometimes, it’s a person,” says Sikiliza.
He adds that the song was recorded with a special meaning of love and to include the voice of Ras Sheehama, who died in September last year and was considered one of Namibia’s most influential reggae artists and a carrier of the message of unity and social awareness in the country.
“This release means a lot to me personally, as I had the privilege of working with the late Ras Sheehama, a legend whose voice was filled with truth, consciousness, and love for the people,” he says.
“Ras Sheehama was more than an icon in Namibian music, and a messenger of unity and humanity among locals.”
Sikiliza adds that through his work on the song, he was forced to honour the spirit of Sheehama and ensure that his message lives on among the younger generation in the future.
“This was also a way of preserving his spirit and honouring the eternal energy he brought to every note he sang,” says Sikiliza, adding that his contribution has added depth, warmth and authenticity to the newly released song.
“This is a reminder that true love is founded on commitment, faith and loyalty,” says Sikiliza.
According to him, the song is also a tribute to Sheehama’s memory and a continuation of the message he lived by every day, such as love is strength, love is home and love is something one can choose every single day.
