PARLIAMENTARIANS have returned from their long holiday on Tuesday to conclude the outstanding obligations of the sixth parliament before new members of the National Assembly, who were elected last year, are sworn in next month.
The swearing-in ceremony for the 7th parliament, elected in November 2019, is scheduled for Friday 20, 2020.
During the remaining short period, the National Assembly will be expected to debate several bills that could not be tabled last year because of time and other constraints.
These include the financial institutions and markets bill (FIM Bill), which was deferred by the minister of finance to February 2020, to be re-tabled.
The control of the import and export of dairy products and dairy product substitutes bill will be re-tabled by the minister of agriculture, after its time lapsed on 30 October last year.
Another important proposed law to be debated during the last lap of the sixth parliament is the post and telecommunications companies establishment amendment bill as proposed by the information and communication technology ministry.
The National Assembly will also reconsider four bills reviewed by and received from the National Council.
These are the appropriation amendment bill, the prevention and combating of pollution of the sea by oil amendment bill, the Namibia financial institutions supervisory authority bill and the financial services adjudicator bill.
