Pakistan President Zardari visits late wife, Bhutto’s grave

GARHI KHUDA BAKHSH, Pakistan – New Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari showered rose petals on the grave of his slain wife Benazir Bhutto yesterday, on his first such visit here since taking office.

Dozens of minders guarded Zardari as he arrived in a bulletproof car that formed part of a 40-strong motorcade, entering the Bhutto family mausoleum as a security cordon kept waiting media around 200 metres away. Zardari, dressed in a dark green traditional shalwar kameez and waistcoat and wearing a maroon-coloured Sindhi cap, bowed on his wife’s grave in tribute, aides said.”He sat near her grave and recited the Holy Koran. He was composed and serious,” a minister who was accompanying the new president inside the tomb told AFP.Zardari took office as Pakistan’s president on Tuesday after winning power in a weekend vote among lawmakers.Nampa-AFPZardari, dressed in a dark green traditional shalwar kameez and waistcoat and wearing a maroon-coloured Sindhi cap, bowed on his wife’s grave in tribute, aides said.”He sat near her grave and recited the Holy Koran. He was composed and serious,” a minister who was accompanying the new president inside the tomb told AFP.Zardari took office as Pakistan’s president on Tuesday after winning power in a weekend vote among lawmakers.Nampa-AFP
