Juliu Marco Hamwele, better known as Page, has officially stepped into solo territory with the release of his debut eight-track EP, ‘Vibration’.
Until now, Page has been widely recognised as one half of the celebrated duo Ethnix, but this project signals a decisive move toward his individual artistic identity.
He describes the EP as “a magnificent body of work” and says the timing felt right after years of creative collaboration.
The EP features production from Focus of Champion League DJz.
Among the tracks is ‘Money’, a fusion of old-school funk and modern Afro-fusion that recalls Christopher Martin’s ‘Paper Loving’.
Champion League DJz also handled mixing and mastering, enhancing the project’s sonic texture and giving it the depth of a refined studio album.
Page says the song appealed to him because it balances melody and groove effortlessly.
Despite venturing out solo, Page insists Ethnix is far from disbanded.
“Etjo and I agreed not to limit our talents. We’re free to work on solo projects because sometimes fans want to experience you as an individual artist. It allows for diversity,” he says.
He says while he’s currently focused on ‘Vibration’, the band remains intact and fans can expect new material soon.
THE PROCESS
In reflecting on the making of the EP, Page emphasises the value of creating a relaxed and positive environment.
“Working on this project was great. I made sure everyone felt at ease. When collaborating, make sure there are enough refreshments and snacks – it really helps the workflow,” he says.
He points to ‘Ondjira’ (featuring Big Ben) as one of the most personal tracks on the EP.
Recorded during a difficult period, the song marks what he describes as a turning point in his life.
“Life can be tough, especially for men. I called Big Ben, one of my favourite artists and a soulful big brother, to join me on the track.
It’s a beautiful piece that marks a new journey,” Page says.
Beyond his solo work, Page has also been shaping spaces for others to create. He has co-founded The Beat, a creative venue at Okuryangava, with business partner Imms Shikongo and producer Andrew on the Beat.
The space was designed to help artists record, unwind and collaborate under one roof.
“Numerous musicians would come to the studio and always had to go and get food or drinks elsewhere,” he says. “We wanted to remove those barriers.”
‘Vibration’ spans an eclectic mix of styles, from kwasa kwasa and amapiano to Afrobeat and soft groove.
The final track, ‘I Love You’ (produced with DJ Vuyo), stands as a love letter to fans and supporters who’ve followed Page’s journey.
He says the EP reflects his evolution and willingness to stretch beyond expectations.
“I want the listener to feel the journey.
The message is still rooted in real-life experiences and relatable lyrics,” he says.
Page’s musical path began in 2007 with the rap group Dream City, before he found national acclaim as part of Ethnix with hits such as ‘Open Up’, ‘Composure’, ‘Ponomate’, ‘Ohole So Nice’ and ‘Omaronga’.
That foundation, he says, prepared him to take ownership of his sound and vision.
With ‘Vibration’ now out and gathering momentum, Page has his sights set on visuals for ‘Money’ and the title track, ‘Vibration’, which he hopes to release before the end of the year.
“These songs are connecting with people the most, so it only makes sense to bring them to life visually,” he says.
He admits that balancing artistry and entrepreneurship can be challenging, but says he sees it as part of the growth process.
“It’s about making decisions that keep the creative journey on track,” he says.
