The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture has 508 capital projects underway in all 14 regions.
This was announced on Thursday by deputy minister Dino Ballotti, who presented a progress report on the ministry’s projects during the National Assembly session.
“With respect to the decongestion projects, there is currently one in
Erongo, six in Kavango East, two in Khomas, and one in both Zambezi and Otjozondjupa. This totals 508 capital projects across all 14 of our regions for this financial year,” he said.
The ministry was allocated a budget of over N$24 billion for the financial year 2025/26 ending in March.
Ballotti says there are currently 29 large capital projects underway, with a minimum of one in each region and a maximum of three in regions such as //Kharas, Erongo, Kavango West, Khomas, and Ohangwena.
He also revealed that there are 300 classrooms being built, with the most being constructed in the Ohangwena region, followed by the Otjozondjupa and Erongo regions, respectively.
Meanwhile, 168 pre-primary classrooms are being built across all 14 regions, with a maximum of 14 in certain regions and a minimum of 10 in others.
“We continue to implement our national decongestion plan, ensuring that schools and communities that are overcrowded receive priority resource allocation,” Ballotti said.
However, progress is particularly slow with three capital projects: Mix Primary School in Khomas region, Tubusis Primary School in the Daures constituency, as well as new hostel facilities at the Onkumbula Combined School in the Oshikoto region, he added.
