After hosting a series of fashion shows which brought together the best African designers to showcase their talents, this time around Miarka is gearing up for a solo showcase at the London College of Contemporary Arts on 23 April.Miarka is well known for creating prints in eye-catching designs, featuring on-trend colours and patterns overlaid on high-fashion garments. She says the spring-summer collection will showcase 30 pieces influenced by Namibia's Himba community. The collection will feature designs for men, women and children in shades of red ochre over light silhouettes.“All my eye-catching creations, colours and patterns are original, with a big emphasis on my background in print and design,” she says.Miarka's creations offer novel approaches to print, design and fine fabrication, alongside a focus on beautiful, seasonal influences stemming from both her native Africa and London's gritty street style. The label is thus underpinned by Miarka's strong design signature, with an emphasis on handmade quality, drapery and bright on-trend colourways.“This is the use of fabrics hand faceted with unusual signature prints, with products and services design that can create high-fashion silhouettes informed by the latest trends and an understanding of the shape and needs of the modern consumer,” she says.Miarka is also working on hosting a fashion event to showcase her creations to potential buyers.“Handmade fashion is big with so many competitors. Breaking into the fashion industry is not as simple as it may seem, there are many things to consider before you start your business. To be successful in the fashion industry, you need to understand these challenges and how they can affect your success,” she says.
