Just when you think everything under the sun has already been done by car manufacturers, Mitsubishi shows up with a fresh creative spark to add to the brand’s signature flair.

The Outlander Sport arrives on the scene boasting a spacious rear passenger compartment, along with a Yamaha sound system connected to a crisp, clear infotainment system that makes listening to your favourite music on long-distance drives pure bliss.

Outlander Sport sales manager Andre van der Merwe says the car truly embodies Mitsubishi’s slogan ‘Drive Your Ambition’.

It’s fitted with a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering a comfortable 77kW and 141Nm of torque through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) gearbox.

AT YOUR FINGERTIPS … The Outlander Sport features a modern and clear infotainment system.

The Outlander Sport offers four drive modes. Unlike other vehicles that feature eco, sport, normal and comfort, this one comes with normal, wet, gravel and mud modes. These settings alter the driving characteristics and responsiveness of the vehicle. The selected mode is displayed as a clear, colour-coded image on the infotainment screen.

This system includes moving wallpapers, which can be personalised to give the car a ‘this is mine’ feel each time you step inside.

Adding to the stylishness of the interior, the dull monotone is replaced with a two-tone finish. A fabric-covered strip draped across the dashboard adds a touch of flair to the cabin.

The Outlander falls comfortably into the crossover segment, with enough bells and whistles to attract potential buyers.

In addition to the well-designed and practical layout of the driver’s compartment, the car offers ample rear space and can seat two sizeable adults with more than enough leg and headroom. The rear seats recline slightly for extra comfort on long trips.

CONVENIENT … The well designed interior of the Outlander Sport has all the controls at hand for the driver.

Practicality gets another tick with rear seats that fold in a 40:20:40 configuration, allowing improved storage for longer parcels.

While not officially confirmed, the rear storage space with the seats up is estimated at 480 litre (l).

Safety hasn’t been overlooked. The Outlander Sport comes equipped with six airbags, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot warning, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a host of other features.

To keep you entertained on long stretches, the vehicle comes standard with an eight-speaker Yamaha sound system. Playing your favourite album via Bluetooth from your smartphone, one can easily imagine enjoying the open road with the volume up.

Other tech specs include ground clearance of 225mm for a comfortable off-road driving experience, and fuel consumption of 6.2l/100km (approximately 16km/l).

Its tank capacity is 60l, given a range of around 900km on a single tank, depending on driving conditions.

The car can go from 0 to 100km/h in 13.6 seconds, though this vehicle isn’t built for racing.

The designers didn’t forget about the social media generation either – the vehicle includes ample charging points for cellphones, laptops and other personal devices.
