Outjo mayor apologises for ‘porn’ video

Outjo mayor Johannes Bapello has apologised for a ‘pornographic’ video that was shared on his WhatsApp status on Sunday.

The viral video, which The Namibian has seen, shows the mayor engaging in explicit sexual conduct.

Bapello believes his phone was eiher hacked, or a child at home accidentally shared the material.

The mayor said he had not been using his phone at the time of the incident, and was shocked to find the video had gone viral.

“I did not intentionally share the material, and I apologise because the phone is mine,” he said.

Bapello declined to comment further, saying a phone is a private device.

“Is my phone not private?” he asked.

Bapello said he has enlisted the services of an investigator to determine what exactly happened.

Community activist Ben Narib, who also saw the video, offered to teach elders how to use social media and smartphones responsibly.

“I want to educate elders on the proper use of smartphones, so they can avoid posting inappropriate content on their statuses,” he said.
