An Otjomuise resident is facing criminal charges after he allegedly encouraged a child to smoke flavoured tobacco over the weekend.
This was announced by national police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi on Tuesday.
“It is alleged that the suspect unlawfully and intentionally caused a minor to use a tobacco product or substance suspected to be harmful at a residence in Otjomuise’s 8ste Laan area on Saturday,” she said.
Shikwambi said the police have since opened two criminal dockets: one for contravening the Tobacco Products Control Act, and another for contravening the Child Care and Protection Act.
She said the suspect, identified as Doctor Mbeheva (28), allegedly unlawfully and intentionally encouraged a child to use a flavoured tobacco product.
The police allegedly confiscated the following items at the scene: one packet of suspected flavoured tobacco, two cellphones, one belonging to the suspect and another to the homeowner who allegedly recorded the incident, and about 5g of tobacco found in the room where the incident took place.
