Otjiwarongo SSC office to service 60 000

The Social Security Commission (SSC) office at Otjiwarongo will act as a central hub for approximately 60 000 registered active employees and employers from surrounding towns.

This is according to board of commissioners’ representative Dr David /Uirab during the launch of construction of the SSC office at Otjiwarongo.

/Uirab emphasised the significance of establishing the Otjiwarongo office, as it not only caters to the town itself but also acts as a service centre for five other nearby towns – Outjo, Khorixas, Kamanjab, Okakarara, and Kalkveld.

These communities collectively account for nearly 60 000 registered active employees, employers, and various interest groups who rely on the services and support of the SSC.

“Our goal at the SSC is to extend coverage to those who are currently without, ensuring that social security protection is accessible to all Namibians,” said /Uirab.

“The opening of this office at Otjiwarongo is a significant step towards achieving this objective. By bringing our services closer to these communities, we bridge the gap and create opportunities for individuals who previously may not have had access to social security coverage.”
The expansion aligns with the SSC’s commitment to inclusivity and its dedication to reaching every part of Namibia, he said.

Deputy labour minister Hafeni Ndemula highlighted the SSC’s multi-faceted approach to reducing public traffic at the SSC head office in Windhoek, thus ensuring effective and timely assistance to the public in the Otjiwarongo area.

“As we enter this construction phase, I have no doubt that the Social Security Commission, together with the construction company (Kerry McNamara Architects Inc), will provide us with quality end results that will make the entire nation proud,” said Ndemula.

The construction of the office is estimated to cost the SSC approximately N$20 million, he said.
Otjiwarongo mayor Gottlieb Shivute commended the establishment of the SSC office, noting its contribution to the well-being of the community by providing essential services to residents of Otjiwarongo and surrounding areas.

“It will serve as a beacon of support, offering assistance, protection, and empowerment to our citizens during times of need,” Shivute said.
He added that the office construction aligns perfectly with the commitment to building a more inclusive and prosperous Otjiwarongo.
