REPRESENTATIVES from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and some of the refugees from Osire camp in Otjiwarongo yesterday donated bags of vegetables, shoes, blankets and cups to Meme Liina Johannes, a house mother to 60 orphaned and vulnerable children.
The vegetables which came from the ‘Osire Green Project’ one of the income generating activities by the refugees to help increase self reliance were donated as an appreciative gesture to the Government of Namibia from the refugees. UNHCR country representative Joyce Mends-Cole said the August 29 article in The Namibian on Meme Liina Johannes titled “A dumpsite for people with nowhere to go” aroused a lot of emotions and although Liina’s situation is not a rare case, she felt it was an issue to be dealt with.UNHCR country representative Joyce Mends-Cole said the August 29 article in The Namibian on Meme Liina Johannes titled “A dumpsite for people with nowhere to go” aroused a lot of emotions and although Liina’s situation is not a rare case, she felt it was an issue to be dealt with.
