Oshikuku Council gets tough

THE Oshikuku Village Council has called on villagers not to erect any permanent structures, including toilets, without the Council’s permission.

Council Secretary Aktofel Amakutuwa says some residents are building without approval. Villagers have complained that the Council is being unnecessarily hard on them by preventing them from building toilets at their homes.Amakutuwa responded that there is no ban on temporary structures, only permanent ones.He said Oshikuku is a very young town, and most of the land within its boundaries still has to surveyed.”If the residents are just putting up structures as they like, we might have problems later when we survey the land. Some people might put up their structures on other people’s boundaries, and we will have to force them to remove those structures,” he told The Namibian. He called upon people to contact him, or the Council’s building inspector, Malakia Ndara, or building foreman Immanuel Haikali before putting up any structures.Amakutuwa promised that the surveying would be done as soon as possible, and appealed for patience in the meantime.Villagers have complained that the Council is being unnecessarily hard on them by preventing them from building toilets at their homes.Amakutuwa responded that there is no ban on temporary structures, only permanent ones.He said Oshikuku is a very young town, and most of the land within its boundaries still has to surveyed.”If the residents are just putting up structures as they like, we might have problems later when we survey the land. Some people might put up their structures on other people’s boundaries, and we will have to force them to remove those structures,” he told The Namibian. He called upon people to contact him, or the Council’s building inspector, Malakia Ndara, or building foreman Immanuel Haikali before putting up any structures.Amakutuwa promised that the surveying would be done as soon as possible, and appealed for patience in the meantime.
