Ministry of Information and Communication Technology executive director Audrin Mathe has announced that Heroes Day will be commemorated at Omuthiya in the Oshikoto region this year.
In a media statement on Thursday, Mathe said the occasion commemorates the Namibian war of liberation struggle which began on 26 August 1966 at Omuguluwoombashe village.
“The day is to honour the sons and daughters of this nation who tirelessly fought for the liberation of this country,” Mathe said.
He added that preparations are underway for this year’s commemoration.
“The government wishes to invite Namibians from all parts of the country to come together and commemorate the selfless acts of sacrifice while reaffirming our patriotism that fosters pride and duty towards our nation,” he said.
Last year, the Heroes Day commemoration was held at Mariental in the Hardap region.
