A teacher at Uuvudhiya Primary School in the Oshana region allegedly drowned in an earth dam at a staff party on Thursday.
Oshana police spokesperson inspector Thomas Aiyambo says the teacher has been identified as Nentanyu Ashipala (26).
Aiyambo says Ashipala attended a year-end function with colleagues at the earth dam at Uuvudhiya village.
He and two of his colleagues at some stage went to swim in the dam.
While swimming, Ashipala allegedly disappeared under the water, upon which his colleagues tried to find him.
They reportedly found him, but lost him again in the process of trying to get him out.
“They continued looking for the deceased with the help of community members, but failed,” Aiyambo says.
Ashipala was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, he says.
His body was retrieved from the dam by police divers on Friday morning.
