Oshana Police ‘working day and night’

THE Police Commander in the Oshana Region, Deputy Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa, has responded angrily to an SMS message criticising the Police that was published in The Namibian last week.

A reader had complained that the Police in Oshana were doing nothing about criminals who are going on the rampage in the North, especially at Oshakati and Ongwediva. ” I have witnessed people getting shot, stabbed, attacked with all sorts of weapons and in all these incidents I have never seen the Police.Do they even exist? Does one have to buy a gun for protection? I’m fed up.We can’t continue like this,” the SMS read.”I want to tell all those who are making these false allegations, to stop doing so, because, they are creating the wrong impression that my Police in Oshana Region are not working and that everything is out of hand,” he said “This is not the case, and will not be the case. These people are not telling the truth. My Police officers are working day and night to keep law and order in Oshana Region, and we have evidence that they are working very hard to combat crime in this region,” said Kashihakumwa. He said, during his three months so far as regional Police Commander, only one shooting and three stabbings have been reported at bars and cuca shops in and around Oshakati and Ongwediva. This was evidence that the Police are working hard to prevent crime, he said.He said people with complaints should address them to him instead of the press.According to Kashihakumwa, neighbourhood committees have been formed in Oshakati and Ongwediva to assist the Police in combating crime and they are working well.He thanked the public for co-operating with the Police.”If we continue like this, I am sure Oshana will be a crime-free region within months.”” I have witnessed people getting shot, stabbed, attacked with all sorts of weapons and in all these incidents I have never seen the Police.Do they even exist?
