'Lungameni' is loosely translated as 'to be wise', and the operation was launched at Ondangwa on Friday.
The objective of the operation is to prevent crime, save lives, protect people's property and promote road safety in the region.
Sakaria at the launch said he decided to kick off his duties with the operation, as he has noted that the region is battling with a high crime rate, and that a number of complaints go unreported due to the negligence of some officers.
He said the operation is community-oriented policing, aimed to engage community members on effective policing in communities.
“This is my first operation, and I want the police to work hand in hand with community members to fight crime together. The police cannot do much without the community's assistance. We need to work together and make Oshana a crime-free region,” he said.
During the operation, Sakaria visited a number of crime hotspots at Ondangwa, and a number of illicit goods were confiscated by the police.
He also introduced himself to community members while educating them on the dangers of being involved in criminal activities.
