Ondangwa Urban District coordinator Sam Nangolo has been elected as Swapo’s new Oshana coordinator.
He secured 43 votes on Saturday, defeating youth leader Absalom Itamalo, who received 34 votes.
Nangolo was elected at a Swapo extraordinary regional conference in Oshakati.
He replaces Werner Iita, who is heading to the parliament.
In his acceptance speech, Nangolo said: “I will be working with comrade Itamalo.”
Itamalo faced challenges ahead of the conference regarding the way he allegedly managed the funds for a youth agricultural project about seven years ago.
