Oshakati Premier Electric launches solar plant

Oshakati Premier Electric (OPE) launched a solar plant at the Okakukiipupu location on Friday.

The plant is owned by Premier Energy, an entity 100% owned by Oshakati Premier Electric.

The 5MW solar plant groundbreaking ceremony was commissioned by deputy minister and minister of industry, mines and energy Natangwe Ithete.

Speaking at the event, Oshana governor Elia Irimari emphasised the collective commitment to sustainable energy and regional development.

“Today, we gather not only to reflect on 25 years of Oshakati Premier Electric’s dedication to powering our communities but also to usher in a new era of renewable energy innovation,” Irimari stated.

He noted that OPE’s efforts have “illuminated homes, empowered businesses, and fueled growth across Oshakati.”

Irimari said the 5MW solar project symbolises progress, resilience and a shared vision for a greener, more energy-secure Namibia.
