Oshakati launches new industrialisation plan

THE Oshakati Town Council needs to mobilise close to N$2 billion to complete the implementation of its 2015-2020 strategic plan, which was launched at the town on Friday.

Revealed while launching the plan officially, Oshakati mayor Onesmus Shilunga told present prospective investors and inhabitants that the launched plan maps out the way the town council wants to carry out development in order to realise its vision and core values.

“The council’s focus is directed toward industrialisation, commercialisation and equitable service provision and distribution of basic amenities to all our residents,” he said. Shilunga also indicated that the plan has to be implemented in its totality if the town council is to achieve its vision of transforming Oshakati town into a city. “This strategic plan is our bible for the next five years to guide all development activities that will lead Oshakati into an industrialised, commercialised and modern capital of the North,” he explained. He said residents of the town own the plan because it came as a result of wider consultations between the council, the business fraternity and entire community, who assisted the town leadership in identifying “key strategic issues that were turned into strategic objectives”.

The mayor pointed out that, as per its five-year strategic plan, the Oshakati Town Council needs to budget over N$615,4 million for 2015/16 financial year; N$ 302,5 million for 2016/17; N$ 364,3 million for 2017/18; N$ 356,2 million for 2018/19 and N$ 358,3 million for 2019/20. Oshakati has about 10 informal settlements that are yet to be formalised. – Nampa
