Oshakati-based herbalist Kenedy Kasume (42), popularly known as ‘Dr Andrew’, appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with the alleged shooting of a man (28).
Kasume is accused of shooting the man in the thigh and hand at a residence at Ongwediva on 1 May.
According to a police report, Kasume allegedly moved the injured man into his house, instructed him to switch off his phone, and warned him not to tell anyone about the incident.
It is further alleged that instead of reporting the matter to the police, Kasume took the victim to a private doctor for treatment.
Kasume was arrested on Sunday – more than a week after the incident.
He was denied bail on Tuesday and remains in custody.
The case has been postponed to 6 October for further police investigations to be done.
Prosecutor Shylock Mulijani, who represents the state in the matter, denied Kasume bail citing the seriousness of the matter and that it would not be in the interest of the public or administration of justice.
“The state fears the accused may interfere with police investigations,” Mulijani said.
