Oshakati eye doctor dies

A WELL-KNOWN eye doctor at Oshakati, Dr Vinnikov Michael Mykhaylovich (57), died at his home in the North on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack.

Oshakati State Hospital Superintendent Dr Korbinian Vizcaya Amutenya said yesterday that the late Dr Mykhaylovich, a Russian national, was employed at the Oshakati State Hospital as an Ophthalmologist in 1998. “He was a friend of Namibians because after the end of the liberation war, Dr Mykhaylovich, who was our eye doctor in exile, decided to come to Namibia with his family and has helped and treated many of our eye patients in the North,” said Amutenya.Mykhaylovich is survived by his wife Anna and his son Dima, who is also a medical doctor at Oshakati.He will be buried at Ongwediva tomorrow [Saturday] as it was his wish to be buried in Namibia, said Amutenya.”He was a friend of Namibians because after the end of the liberation war, Dr Mykhaylovich, who was our eye doctor in exile, decided to come to Namibia with his family and has helped and treated many of our eye patients in the North,” said Amutenya.
